Clay Custer is a visual artist from South East Georgia whose paintings reflect an exploration of color, surface and media. A life long fascination with the natural world provides a strong influence on the organic nature of his images. Earning his BFA from University of Georgia in 1996 and his MFA from Utah State University in 2000, Clay has exhibited his work in the Northeast, Southeast and the Rocky Mountain West. His works are included in private collections in Arizona, Boston, Georgia, Idaho and Utah.
“It has been my intent to create a visual experience in which the viewer becomes absorbed in contemplative introspection. By allowing process a greater influence over the visual result of the painting and my interaction with the surface producing a visual dialog between the viewer and the painting. The mind, the hand, the painted surface plus the viewer equaling communication.”
